During a quick lunch break you can find Mexican students visiting our Ben Franklin library to surf the internet, check out English-language materials, or read a U.S. newspaper. The library is one of many programs we offer to help support friendship and understanding between the U.S. and Mexico.

Mexico has many ambitious reforms on its agenda, and we are pleased that we have been invited to support many of them. We are committed partners in key areas like small business development, and sustainable growth.

American Peace Corps volunteers live and work in small villages to purify water and in large scientific institutions to provide doctoral-level technical assistance. Their willingness to learn Spanish, live in Mexico for two years, and contribute their life experience sends a strong signal of friendship to the communities where they volunteer.

Our cooperative programs provide scholarships to indigenous teachers who return to their small villages and teach future generations. We help shade-forest coffee growers develop products competitive in the global market. We help mayors develop the financial tools to finance community projects like classrooms, libraries and roads. We share case precedents and legal views with Mexican judges trying cases on child abduction, intellectual property rights and other cases of common interest.

We work with Mexico to help protect the environment, preserve indigenous traditions, prevent and treat tuberculosis, and broaden transparency.
